11: How to Tell Your Story to Recruit Like a Rockstar in MLM

First impressions are important. We all know it.

The way you position yourself in the eyes of your prospect or event audience can have a huge impact on your ability to connect and convert them. You see, people do business with those they know, like and trust. So the question becomes: Can you get someone to know, like and trust you after only knowing you for an hour or less?

Of course the answer is a resounding yes. And here’s a key part of the how…

YOUR STORY!

The best Network Marketers are good storytellers. When you tell your story it should be in a way that makes it easy for the person listening to see themselves in your shoes. Show them in your story why they should want to come on a journey with you.

So very simply, here are the components of a compelling story:

Step 1 – Share your background
Step 2 – Say what you didn’t like about your background
Step 3 – Share how your network marketing companies products or opportunity came to the rescue
Step 4 – Share your results or how you FEEL about your future

SIMPLE PRODUCT STORY EXAMPLE:
Step 1 – Share your background
“Feeling good in my body is always something i’ve known I wanted. Our bodies are the tools we have to make a difference in this world right?”
Step 2 – Say what you didn’t like about your background
“Well before Seantay introduced me to these products I felt pretty good in my health, but I needed something to give me support in my digestive system.
Step 3 – Share how your network marketing companies products or opportunity came to the rescue
“After looking for a solution for a couple years my wife shared ________ product with me and now I have found the digestive support i’ve been looking for. ______ product has helped reduce bloating, gas, and occasional indigestion and that has been huge for me.
Step 4 – Share your results or how you FEEL about your future
“I have never felt more energetic, vibrant and balanced. I can’t wait for you to feel the same!”

***It’s important with product stories that you stay compliant not making any kind of unapproved medical or health claim. Just remember to keep your language focused on your health going from good to better instead of going from bad to better.

SIMPLE OPPORTUNITY STORY EXAMPLE:
Step 1 – Share your background
“A couple of years ago I was working part time and going to school full time. My life felt so so busy, I’m sure you can relate.”
Step 2 – Say what you didn’t like about your background
“I had recently married my wife and felt like I was never able to spend time with her because almost all of my time had to go to making money to pay our bills”
Step 3 – Share how your network marketing companies products or opportunity came to the rescue
“Then I met a couple named Andy and Natalie who showed me that I could do meaningful work, partnered up with my wife and be able to earn more money in less time in a leveraged business environment. That was my introduction into the business opportunity of _______ company”
Step 4 – Share your results or how you FEEL about your future
“Our family has grown by a cute little son since then and we have been able to create a lifestyle we love, while serving so many sharing products that change lives. Plus we are more excited and optimistic than ever about the future! Now we are committed to helping other families who want what we wanted, to experience the kind of lifestyle we have.”

***It’s important with business stories that you stay compliant not making any kind of unapproved income claim.

So if you notice in the story above, it was specific enough about my past that people could connect with me. It wasn’t just all generic, but it was generic enough that most people who would be looking for an opportunity could relate to what I was feeling. Realize that you don’t need to make any income claims or even talk about how much you make to have a great story! That should come as comfort for those of you who have yet to reach a high level in your company. Just talk about how you FEEL about the future.

I want to challenge you to wright down your story today! Take time to get clear, write down your story and then memorize it so it’s a part of your normal language.
