The Four Year Career by Richard Bliss Brooke
This is hands down one of my favorite network marketing books. Richard Bliss Brooke is a famous network marketer and trainer. Definitely check out his book The Four Year Career. He is also the author of Mach 2 With Your Hair on Fire.
One of the concepts that Richard reviews in his book the four year career is the concept of momentum built over time in your business. He describes your first 4 years in network marketing with the image below:
The first 1-2 years of your network marketing experience will probably be spent really pushing yourself and your team every step of the way. It will be fulfilling AND a ton of work! Do some people get rich in their first year or two? Absolutely! Do most? Absolutely not. Managing your own expectations and those you bring into the business is not only a matter of integrity, but will be one of the things that helps you and your team stay committed over the long term. In these first couple years you will probably put in more work than you think you’re getting compensated for. What you need to realize is that you are going to be residually compensated on those efforts for years down the road!
In years 2-4 you will really get the ball rolling. You’ll feel like you’re getting compensated well but you’ll still be pushing that car up that hill! You’ll most likely still be putting in a lot of time and effort.
By years 4-5, if you have been consistently working hard in and on your business you should be benefiting from a strong residual income. At this point you could technically and in theory scale back your personal efforts and enjoy your “freedom”. Well to me and most other entrepreneurs I know you might just continue to drive that car forward and continue progressing. Will you ever get tired of serving people with your products or opportunity? For me the answer to that question is no.
So a fundamental question that Richard Brooke asks is would you rather have $1,000,000 or one penny doubled every day for 30 days. Network marketing is a long game. It’s really not most peoples ticket to “getting rich quick”. Rather it is about patience, persistence, and perseverance.
Here is the image from his book that shows what it would look like if you decided to take the penny doubled every day for 30 days. You would end up with well over $5,000,000!
If you haven’t yet read The Four Year Career I highly recommend it. This book even makes for a great prospecting tool if you use it right.
Have a great day my friends!
